Sometimes, as a parent, it’s hard to keep track of the latest toy crazes. When Zuru contacted me and offered to send me a new Rainbocorns Series 2 and a Rainbocorns Sparkle Hearts for the twins…. I have to admit, I had no idea what a Rainbocorn was.
The twins love an unboxing video as much as the next toddler, so I figured… why not? And today is Global Hatching Day, so it’s finally time to share what’s inside!
Zuru sent us a Rainbocorns Series 2 and a Rainbocorns Sparkle Hearts as a gift in exchange for this review. All opinions, as always, are mine (or the twins’).
Rainbocorns
As soon as we opened the box, the twins were excited. The Rainbocorns Sequin Surprise was much bigger than I was expecting and there’s no way to tell, (that I could find) from the outside, which character you’re going to find inside. There are 13 to collect and they’re all pretty adorable, so I guess it doesn’t matter.
The Sparkle Hearts surprise egg is smaller, but Jack loved it straight away.
The Unboxing
The twins couldn’t wait to get the eggs open. Literally. They couldn’t wait. As soon as they had those eggs in their arms, it was game over. I’m afraid they did not wait for the Global Hatching Day. To be honest, I’m glad they couldn’t wait, because I was actually quite excited to see what was inside, too. There’s something about a surprise box that turns adults into kids again, isn’t there!
So this is our Rainbocorn Series 2. She’s Willow, the Pandacorn. She’s cute… but I quite fancy the Owlcorns and Lioncorns myself! Whatever it is, Alice loves it. It smells delicious and my house is covered in Rainbocorn stickers and Alice won’t take the little bracelet off. The baby Boo-Boocorn was a hit, too (Alice loves her little toy figures, the teenier the better). The sequin heart that was part of the egg also has a clip on the back. Alice is not a fan of things in her hair, but she loves having that heart clipped to her preschool bag. The sequins are reversible and reveal a surprise underneath (ours has a picture of an icecream cone).
Rainbocorns Sparkle Heart
Luckily, we haven’t had any fighting over the Rainbocorn Series 2, because Jack only has eyes for the Rainbocorns Sparkle Heart.
This toy is quite a bit smaller, but it’s also cheaper (RRP £9.99, compared to the Series 2 RRP of £24.99) and there are still a couple of little surprises inside the egg.
There are six types of Sparkle Heart – Puppycorn, Kittycorn, Flamingocorn, Unicorn, Llamacorn and Bunnycorn. We got Cassidy, the Llamacorn. The little sticker on her heart comes off to tell us that she likes sunglasses, apparently. Seems like an odd thing for a llama to like… but Jack thought it was great when he saw the little picture of sunglasses under the sticker.
Again, the Boo-boocorn was a big hit. With Alice. She took it as soon as Jack was occupied with something else.
Rainbocorn Poop
Let’s take a minute to talk about this Rainbocorn Poop. It’s basically a gooey slime/soft playdoh type thing, in bright rainbow colours. It’s weird. The kids love it. Obviously.
The Verdict
I think it’s clear that the Rainbocorn toys have been a hit here. Jack and Alice both love them. I love how Willow smells, although I’m not sure how long that will last. These are really cute toys and we’re very grateful to Zuru Toys for sharing them with us. All of the different varieties are cute, despite my preference for the owls and lions. They come with a little collectors guide inside the egg and the twins have already decided that they want all of them. Defintitely something for the Christmas list! (It’s never too early to start thinking about Christmas, after all).
Both the Rainbocorns Sequin Surprise Series 2 and the Rainbocorns Sparkle Heart Surprise are suitable for ages 3+ and are available from Smyths, The Entertainer, Argos, Asda, Tesco, and B&M from July.
