5 Signs You Don’t Want More Kids

Being a mum is the best thing you’ve done and you wouldn’t change it for the world. Still, it doesn’t mean you can handle another bundle of joy in your life! Babies are hard work and there comes a time when you want to sit back and enjoy the fruits of your labour. Otherwise, you miss out on watching them grow up. How can you tell when you’re done? These five signs are often telltale indicators.

You Get The Chills

Not when your hubby leaves the window open (again), but when you hear the phrase “I’m pregnant.” For a moment, you lose all bearings and everything slows down as a state of shock takes over because you think it applies to you. Then, you remember you took all the necessary precautions and this is someone else’s problem moment and everything calms down. Still, you can’t shake the feeling you had when you thought it was yours for a split second.

You “Encourage” People To Take Your Stuff

One of your friends announces she’s pregnant and a thought runs through your head. The feeling is one of pure happiness – for her but also the fact you can get rid of your baby things. The books, the toys, the old clothes and even the breastpump you kept that are cluttering up the attic are fair game and you’re glad. Most of them have become a nuisance rather than a backup, and that’s a sure-fire sign.

You Do Things Without Babies In Mind

For example, you splash out on an expensive car because you don’t need every penny. You’ve done the part where you get by on a shoestring and now it’s time to loosen the purse strings. Alternatively, you also don’t do stuff because there are no babies on the horizon. Moving house is usually done to create more space for a bigger family, but you’re happy in the home you’ve built because it’s perfect.

You Consider Permanent Measures

Using contraception is fine but it’s pointless if you’re not going to have any more kids. And, the thought is running through your head regularly. Tubal ligation, or having your tubes tied, is nothing to trifle with as it’s permanent and can’t be undone. Still, the idea seems very desirable even though you’ve taken this into account. This is your self-conscious saying “look, we’re done with kids and we don’t need anymore.” Yep, sometimes you’re self-conscious will sound like your partner!

You’re Happy

Another baby might make you happier, but you’re content right now. You look at your family and there isn’t an urge to add to it or change it in any way. Instead, you want to enjoy what you’ve created and look forward to the new milestones that come as kids grow up. Eating a meal at a restaurant without crayons is as blissful as it sounds, ladies.

Let’s not get twisted – being a mum is incredible. However, like the kids growing up, you’ve got to move onto the next phase too. Otherwise, where would you learn cool phrases such as “let’s not get it twisted?”
