Your bedroom is your personal space; that place where you can shut your door to the world and relax with the things that make you happy. Whether you curl up under the duvet, sit for an hour with your beauty kit, or rest your head on your cupcake shaped pillows, this is your safe haven of peace and tranquillity. This is your room to reconnect with yourself and to calm your frazzled mind. Well, that’s the theory anyway.
To ensure your bedroom is conducive to good mental health, here are some tips that could be useful to you.
Create more space
An untidy room leads to an untidy mind, or so the experts suggest. And to be honest, this is probably quite true because how can you relax when you’re distracted by clutter? How can you relax when you don’t have the space to use your room as you want to? So, deal with any clutter by purchasing more storage. It could be something that fits under your bed if you don’t have a lot of room elsewhere or, if you can accommodate it, you could buy a 2 mirror wardrobe. Not only will this addition give you more room for your clothes but it will also create the illusion of more space in your room. And be sure to remove anything from the room that is needlessly taking up space, as you will then have more space to enjoy your bedroom fully.
Relax with scents
It has been scientifically proven that certain scents can soothe us, especially lavender, which can calm feelings of anxiety, so create more sensory opportunities in your bedroom. Oil diffusers, aromatherapy candles, and even a vase of flowers are just a few of the additions that you might want to consider. You can then lie back on your bed and let the smell of Christmas tree pine needles, citrus fruits, or that calming smell of lavender relax your senses and improve your mood.
Repaint your room
Certain colours can evoke a calmer mood state, so if your walls are painted in those shades that don’t quite do it for you, consider making the change. Check out the colours here for a few prime examples, and consider those that are pleasing to your eye. While repainting your room is just one way to add colour, you might also want to do the same for your bed sheets, decorative items, and carpeting too.
Purchase a writing desk
Journalling can be good for your mental health, as it is a safe way to vent all of the anxious thoughts that are running through your mind. With a writing desk set up somewhere in the room, you will then have the incentive to sit down with a pen and paper (or even your laptop) and get those thoughts and feelings out into the open. This is especially useful if you usually struggle to sleep, as by getting your thoughts down on paper, you will be less likely to toss and turn thinking about all of the things that are bothering you. Your writing desk can also be a good place for you to get creative too, so consider blogging, writing poetry, or some other such seated pursuit that can distract you from your worries.
