Our bedrooms are our private spaces to fully unwind and feel at peace. The first thing to do to create a relaxing space is to clear up and rid yourself of clutter. A messy and disordered room makes it impossible to chill and feel calm. Once you’ve had a good clean up, be sure to give these five fun ideas a try.
1 . Calming candles
To create a relaxing bedroom space, it’s all about the calming candles. After a hard day at work, one of the best ways to chill is to light a few candles, put on some relaxing music and enjoy the soothing scents and ambient flickers of light. Aromatherapy teaches us that with the right scents, we can encourage the emotions that we seek, whether a sense of calm, an energy boost, or relief from anxiety. Try lavender or rose candles to feel relaxed, then try ylang ylang to lift your spirits. Purchase eco-candles to keep your indoor air free of toxins.
2. The right accessories
To create a zen space, it’s all about the right accessories. Use soft, oversized rugs to warm your feet and create a cosy atmosphere. Decorate with dream catchers, for an earthy and magical feel (plus a great night’s sleep)! Use plants (not accessories as such, but they do look great) to cleanse the air and boost your endorphins. Choose artwork that is calming to look at, try scenes of the natural world, for instance.
3. A luxurious bed
No bedroom is adequately relaxing without a luxury bed. Choose a bed with plenty of space and a mattress with great support. Duvets and pillows made of goose feathers are perfectly soft and will ensure maximum comfort, whether chilling with a book or sleeping. When it comes to your bed, don’t be afraid to blow the budget a little. A luxury bed makes all the difference to how peaceful and at home that we feel in our bedroom space. Those who have insomnia should try out a weighted blanket. These are reported to reduce the effects of both insomnia and anxiety.
4. The perfect lighting
Whether you’re chilling with a movie or chatting on the phone, ensure that you provide yourself with some low lighting options, to help you relax. After a long day, we don’t always want the glare of a bright light, so choose your lamps carefully. Remember, LED bulbs are greener and more durable plus you’ll save money on your electricity bills.
5. A cosy corner
Create yourself a cosy corner, use an armchair, bean bags, or floor pillows; whatever you’ll feel most comfortable to chill on. Decorate the corner with artwork, and keep your favourite books nearby. Use this corner to chill and spend time away from your phone, laptop, and TV for a while. It’s a good idea to practice calming activities before going to sleep. From reading to meditation, yoga, or drawing, create a cosy space in your room for self-care.
