If you’re like most mums, one of the things you think about most throughout your day is how to keep your little one safe. This ranges from discussing internet safety with your children to keeping them safe from traffic when they’re playing outside. It can be exhausting trying to keep your kids safe at all times.

There are a variety of potential dangers for people of all ages. Below are some of the ways that you can put your anxieties to rest by helping to keep your family safe.

Keeping your home and neighbourhood safe

If you would prefer to keep strangers from soliciting your house or entering onto your property, you may want to reach out to a contractor to discuss online security solutions. Solutions range from installing an intercom system to installing automatic gates or fencing.

If you live in a neighbourhood with many families with young children, consider talking to your neighbours about having speed restrictors installed so that your children could bicycle or play outside without as much oversight. If you’re new to the neighbourhood, chatting with neighbourhood families about safety is a sure way to win new friends, and for tips on adjusting to a move, check out an earlier blog here. Just make sure to check with your local government to ensure any installations are by the book.

Safety apps for phones

Depending on the age of your children, they may be on the verge of having their own phone, or you may simply allow them to use yours from time to time. To keep kids safe while using your phone, make sure that you provide them guidelines for how to behave when using it, including not calling strangers, giving their number out to people they don’t know, and how to access safe websites on the internet. If your children are fairly young, you may want to monitor how they are using their cell phones. There are plenty of apps for this. However, also consider that the older your children get, the more they will feel like you’re infringing on their privacy. If you teach them rules about how to use their cell phone, also put trust in them so that they’ll be likelier to come to you if they do feel they are put in danger.

Physical health

One of the most discussed dangers right now is physical health, due to COVID-19. Some things are just out of your control. You can’t prevent all danger, but you can take precautions to keep your family feeling their best. You’ve likely been sterilizing your home, having your family wash their hands, and social distancing over the past few months. There are many other ways you can help ensure your family’s safety:

  • When your kids jump on their bikes, always have them wear a helmet.
  • When near a body of water, keep an eye on your children.
  • Medications should be locked up or put in a closet that your little ones can’t access.
  • Buckle your kids in whenever travelling in a vehicle.

You can’t prevent all danger from occurring, but you can do your best to keep your family safe. Simply put, use common sense to make sure your family stays healthy and safe.
