Neck pain can be, well, a pain in the neck. It is one of those pains that can start off fairly beginning – nothing more than a little niggle really – only to develop into something that is excruciatingly painful and difficult to live with. So, it is really important that you get to the bottom of what’s causing your pain in the first place so that you can deal with it before it develops into something much worse.

Of course, it’s always a good idea to consult your doctor on any health matters that are causing you a problem, but in the meantime, let’s take a look at some of the most common causes of neck pain:

Wear and tear

The bones and muscles in our neck are very delicate, which means it is really easy for them to become sore, inflamed or even for them to start to degenerate as we get older with wear and tear.  You can protect against this to some extent by improving your posture and avoiding inflammation where possible, but for the most part, if your neck pain is down to wear and tear, your best bet is a good osteopathic clinic that can help you manage your pain and make a few changes to your life to minimise any further degradation.

Screentime

Yes, you knew it was coming, but spending too much time staring at screens really can cause your neck to become sore. For example, if you spend a lot of time looking at a computer monitor that is not at eye level, then your posture will be slumped, your neck will be at an awkward angle, and pain will be inevitable, The same thing happens when you spend too much time hunched over your phone. Luckily, there are ergonomic devices you can use to counteract the effects of screentime on your neck to a high degree, which means you really don’t need to suffer for your screen.

Stress

Stress and anxiety can affect you physically as well as mentally, so if you have been feeling stressed burnt out or anxious about various things in your life, and you have also noticed that you seem to have a pain in your neck, it could be that the two are related. Spend some time chillingg out meditating and working o your self-care and you might just see that your neck pain starts to dissolve in no time at all.

Cervical radiculopathy

Cervical radiculopathy is the technical term for a pinched nerve and one of the most common causes of neck pain at the moment. It usually starts in the spinal area, but it can radiate out to the neck arms and beyond, If you have this kind of neck pain, chances are you will be experiencing pins and needles or numbness too. If that is the case, it’s important that you see your doctor as soon as possible as it could be arthritis or a slipped disc causing the problem.

If you have a pain in the neck, please get it checked out by a professional and do what you can to correct the problem before it gets worse!
