Rethink How You Think – And Thrive Doing It!

Any business owner could probably give you quite an intellectual response to the question: “why is staff training important”. I mean, how can you expect your staff to deliver on the value proposition and service promise of your business, without knowing what any of that is, right?

But now, as with so many things in the world today, staff training – and business training at that – has become so important, that an entire fringe industry has sprung up around the pandemic to help organisations meet their training and development goals, albeit remotely.

However, that’s beginning to change. As offices are reopening and workers are returning to their places of work, at least part-time in certain instances, it has become necessary to rethink the way we train our teams in order to meet the challenges of a business landscape that is in many respects, unrecognisable – and yet, a business boom is in the air!

So, let’s take a look at a couple of elements that will stand you in good stead when leading your teams.

IT STARTS WITH STRONG LEADERSHIP

That line is probably as old as the hills itself, and it remains as true today as it ever has been. There is simply no way that you’re going to be able to lead your teams without first being able to lead. This is especially true now that the entire system of business has in some way or other changed and in some cases irrevocably so, thanks to the pandemic. Put another way, you need to understand how to plan, execute and convert into profit a business model that may in some ways, not make any more sense at all.

Think how smart courier companies have been. Contactless delivery, expanding their services to include food delivery in some cases (Uber Eats kind of has this down), and some grocery stores have enabled contactless check-outs.

KNOW YOUR COMPETITION

You might be thinking that this post seems out of place on a blog that is dedicated to family, wellness and mental health. Actually, it’s perfectly placed because many readers of this blog are in positions of leadership and are accountable to the ‘higher-ups’. No one likes to think that we’re materialistic in the ‘fickle’ sense of the word, but money matters and to operate effectively in the business environment – that is to say, earn a decent living – you’re going to have to scope out what your competition is up to. There is a direct link between your financial state and your mental health, so being an effective leader also means knowing how to do – what your competition is not.

It may seem like everything is upside down and the other way around – and perhaps in some ways that are the case, but there are also a million reasons to be positive! The pandemic has forced a rethink of old and staid processes and lines of thought and smart money knows how to evolve with it.

Whether you’re a “work from home” type or a corporate climber, it’s always a good idea to rethink the way you do you.
