It might seem a bit unrealistic to want to be happy always, especially since no one is always fully happy. As a mum, that might seem like a distant dream. After all, there will be times when you will be sad, angry, or frustrated. You’re probably dealing with many irritating habits around the home, from your kids to your partner, which can put you in a bad mood, and studies show that a bad mood is contagious. That being said, it’s still crucial that you are intentional about being happier in your life. It improves your mental health, as well as your overall quality of life.
- Stay true to yourself

Most mums face a lot of stress, including setting unrealistic goals and trying to meet impossible standards. It’s common to find many mothers feeling that they’re not good enough at mothering. These insecurities and fears stem from constantly comparing themselves to other mums. That shouldn’t be the case. You don’t need to be anyone’s version of who a good mum should be. Instead, consider all your strengths and values and try to incorporate them into your life. Most importantly, it would help if you continued to try for yourself. You don’t have to know everything at once, and while it’s good to be open-minded and ready to learn, you don’t have to do it for anyone else but yourself. Your family would appreciate your effort, but most importantly, it would build your confidence.
- Hang out with friends
You love your family, but sometimes they don’t get you as your friends would. One of the best ways to bring a smile to your face is by keeping in touch with your friends and scheduling hangout times with them. It’s easy to forget about your friends, especially when other priorities, like your children, come up. But friendships are important, and when you’re feeling emotional, frustrated, or even excited, there’s nothing more amazing than sharing that news with someone who gets you. Even if you don’t have time to hang out every Friday night, there are various ways to include your friends in your life. They can join you on weekly runs, and you can set playdates with your kids or invite each other over for some downtime.
- Join a class

If you’re a stay-at-home mum, life can get routine and, honestly, very boring. It’s also normal for all your activities to revolve around your home and family. But what about you? Even if you don’t plan on returning to work, it doesn’t mean you should stop learning. In your downtime, while the children are in school or you have some free time, why not fill those hours with some classes? It could be an exercise or even an academic class if you desire to expand your knowledge. If you are religious, you can take a Christian discipleship course to help you get back into your spirituality.
Being a mum is not a small job. But to be the best version of yourself, you need to be happy. When you are, not only will you be present for your kids but yourself as well.
