How to Get Your Employees to Start Putting Their Health First

In today’s fast-paced work environment, it’s easy for employees to put their health on the back burner while striving to meet professional goals. But there is one huge problem: it’s the fact that a lot of employees (due to toxic corporate and work culture) are wearing it as a badge of honor if they work long hours, get next to no sleep, or have zero work-life balance. This isn’t something that anyone should feel proud of. People work to live, not live to work.

Even if your company culture in your business isn’t toxic like some companies there, there still might be this internal expectation from employees that they have to overperform.  As an employer, especially one that uses SEQOHS safety critical medicals when checking applicant and employee health, you especially need to know that there are a lot of aspects that go into health.

You’ll Need to Lead By Example

You can tell people to stop working and leave the office when it’s time, but they may still keep working the second they get home. Sure, not all employees are like this, but more and more employees are putting their health and their personal lives second and putting their work first. So, you seriously, as a business owner, need to lead by example. Think of it this way: you want to grow your business smoothly, and the best way for that to happen is to have happy and energised employees.

But the only way for this to happen is to ensure that you are leading by example and enforcing everyone to stay away from this overworking mentality. It takes time, but it will get to the point where overworking will be frowned upon by everyone. So basically, leaders who practice healthy habits, such as regular exercise, taking breaks, and maintaining work-life balance, set the tone for the entire organization.

Even if it’s currently stressful at work/ running your business, you’re still going to have to do what you can to lead by example. Besides, you need to do this for yourself, too. So, what can you do to make things go a little smoother? For example, if you’re stressed out because several clients just ghosted you when they should have paid you, then you’ll have to stop emailing them and hoping to hear back.

This alone can cause a lot of stress and mental decline. In cases like this, you’ll need to look into researching Jefferson Capital Systems reviews or similar businesses for some help with getting collections, as the more often this happens, the more harmful it can be for your business. So, this is just an example, but overall, you’re going to have to find strategies to make things run smoother for your business so you can be healthier so your employees, at the end of the day, can be healthier too.

Allow More Work-Life Balance Flexibility

Maybe employees can’t put their health first due to a lack of flexibility. Everyone is dealing with different circumstances. Implement policies that support flexible schedules, remote work options, and paid time off. Encouraging employees to disconnect from work when they are not on duty helps reduce stress and improve overall well-being. But overall, allow flexibility; this is usually the biggest thing that can help.

Maybe someone isn’t able to cover another person’s shift, or maybe no one has the time or money to go to the office daily if they can do the same work from home. If you give wiggle room, enough wiggle room, it’ll be a nice (and firm) reminder of how employers need to put themselves first.

How Supportive is the Enviroment?

It’s always best to create a system in the culture where everyone shows concern, care, and can offer support. So, you should try to foster a work environment where employees feel supported in their health-related choices. Encourage open communication about health concerns and offer resources for mental health support. Ideally, even take it a step further by creating spaces for relaxation (flooring from apacontractflooring.co.uk is great for health and safety as well as comfort) and mindfulness, such as designated break areas or quiet rooms. But of course, enact this mindset where everyone cares about each other. Maybe not a “we’re family” mindset, but something strong and supportive.
