Don’t Make These Mistakes when Buying a New Car

Do you need a new car? If so then you need to make sure that you avoid these top mistakes. If you don’t then you may end up with a vehicle that doesn’t suit your requirements, or that doesn’t fit your lifestyle. If you want to avoid all of this then the only thing you have to do is follow the tips outlined below.

Not Visiting Multiple Dealerships

This one may seem obvious, but you have to make sure that you visit a lot of dealerships. If you don’t then you may find that you end up paying out way more than you need. If you manage to find a car that you love, then take the time to shop around and visit different places. Also, make sure that you are comparing the same features. This includes the trim, the model and any extras you might like. If you don’t take things like this into account then you may not get the most bang for your buck. If you don’t know much about cars then it could be an idea to go to a specialist. This means visiting a Land Rover dealership over a general dealer, for example.

Ignoring your Current Car

You also need to make sure that you take note of the car you have now. A lot of people plan to trade in their car, so give some thought to what it could be worth and make sure that you get a good price estimate.  Most of the time you can get a price online if you simply take the time to enter your details. This is a great way for you to gain a bit of extra bargaining power with the dealership of your choosing, as it forces them to higher their price in order to stay as competitive as possible.

Not Getting the Best Loan

It’s very easy for you to let a dealership do this for you, but it is a major mistake. When you have picked out your car, they will direct you to the finance office. This is where you’ll get given your loan terms. This sounds easy and it certainly is, but you have to remember that if you shop around you are way more likely to get more favorable terms. Each bank will have its own interest terms and over the years, this can add up to a substantial amount.

Focusing on Monthly Payments Alone

The dealership will often encourage you to focus on monthly repayments alone. This is a major mistake. Dealerships tend to add extended warranties or insurance packages to your purchase and if you are paying monthly, you may think it’s worth it as you’re not paying much more overall. This is a major mistake though. You need to instead focus on the overall price you are paying. When you are happy with the overall price, you can then split it up into however many months you want. With that in mind though, you do want to be mindful of the fact that if you take your loan out over a longer period, then your interest rates will be higher.
