5 Reasons Your Headache Won’t Go Away

A persistent headache can be frustrating, but unfortunately, this can be a regular experience for a lot of people. It can feel exhausting when the headache lingers without a clear cause. While there is no denying that headaches are common, when they turn into ongoing discomfort, that is your body’s way of signalling that something in your daily routine or environment may be off, especially when your health check comes back clean.

The good news is that many of the triggers are surprisingly easy to overlook, but also easy to address once you’ve noticed them.

#1. You’re not drinking enough water

Dehydration is one of them ost common and most underestimated causes of headaches. When your body lacks fluids, it can affect your blood flow and reduce the oxygen delivery to the brain. So, this is where your headache comes from.

This is especially common in home office setups and workplaces where there is no visible reminder to drink water, such as keeping water coolers in the room or a bottle of water on the desk.

#2. Poor indoor air quality

The air you breathe can play a significant role in how you feel during the day. Poor indoor air quality is linked to headaches and symptoms of fatigue. What is the likely cause? Typically, a drop in air quality can be caused by lack of ventilation or the presence of allergens and dust in the room.

When air circulation is limited, it’s easy for pollutants to build up. So, if you work in an enclosed office, even with an air conditioning unit on, there are still risks of low air quality. Sometimes, all it takes is opening the windows to renew the air or maintaining your ventilation systems.

#3. Your eyes may need correction

Eye strain is a major contributor to persistent headaches, particularly if you spend long hours looking at screens. When your eyes are working harder than they should, it can lead to tension in the surrounding muscles, which often spreads to your head.

While you may not notice obvious signs of blurred vision if your eyes are compensated, it may be worth consulting an eye specialist to get your eyes tested. You’d be surprised to know that even a minor correction in your prescription can make a noticeable difference in reducing eye strain and eliminating the risk of headaches.

#4. Too much sun glare on your screen

When sunlight reflects off your screen, your eyes have to work hard to maintain focus. Unfortunately, this issue is common in offices where desk position isn’t optimised. Sitting directly in front of a window can create constant glare throughout the day.

Solutions are easy, though, from changing desk setup to investing in an anti-glare screen to reduce problems.

#5. You’re under too much stress

Stress is a known trigger for tension headaches. When you’re stressed, your muscles tighten, and the tension can build up. Even at a low-level, ongoing stress can cause headaches. So, when you can’t remove stress factors, you can certainly introduce more time and techniques for stress relief, such as regular breaks and going for a short walk outside.

When your health check is clean, but headaches won’t go away, they can be caused by your direct environment or your habits. Once you’ve identified the cause, you can truly make big improvements on your health.
