When it comes to your home, you are always going to have a to-do list. It’s just one of those areas of your life where you seem to always have something to do. And it’s not all that surprising, because this is the space in which you spend most of your time. You’re also using it each and every day too. So, over time, it will start to show signs of wear and tear. And this is often the main reason for why your to-do list is growing so much. Because unless you are able to stay on top of everything around the home, it will eventually need repairing or replacing or refreshing. Yet, we don’t always plan and prepare for this. And so, when something breaks or looks shabby, it can stress us out!
Now, you won’t always be able to prepare for some of the things that go wrong around the home. But, you can for most. From knowing how old your boiler is to the last time you painted the living room, it’s definitely a great way to pre-plan some of the work and maintenance you will need to do around the home. To execute this, you will want to come up with a list of things that need doing in that year, or within a certain time frame. From ensuring that your home is energy efficient, to keeping a safe structure, to maintaining the decor, it can all be counted for. So let’s take a look at a few ideas to get you started.
First of all, it may be that you really need to tackle your home organization this year! Because with the rise of idea’s like Marie Kondo’s Life Changing Magic Of Tidying Up, there are much easier ways for us to be able to live well in the most organized of ways. So perhaps your aim for the year is to get (and stay) organized!
The next thing, and perhaps the biggest here, is the idea of extending your home. Or converting spaces! Because sometimes, a home extension is really going to help you to get the space you need, maximize on the areas you have, and enjoy a better quality of life. But it takes a lot of time and work, so this will need to be something that you plan in.
Another really big section that you might want to work on here, is decorating. Maybe your interiors are looking a little shabby? Maybe you know that you need to bring the latest decor trends in place to spruce up the look of your home a little? If this is the case, and it’s going to lift your living experience as well as your home, then work out what you need to decorate this year.
The next thing that you might want to do here, try to make sure that you’re being as energy conscious as possible. Because it’s just too easy to live on autopilot and not really think about the energy that you’re wasting or how you’re affecting the environment. This could be unplugging devices, getting AdBlue storage tanks, or even just using electricity consciously. So maybe you want to become more energy efficient this year?
Or, maybe you need to get ahead with cleaning! Do you really want to be able to have a huge spring clean and set the tone for the year? Or maybe you want to put a cleaning program in place so that your home is easier to manage? If so, make this a priority for the year.
Getting The Garden Together
Now, because we’re just about to go into summer, you may be thinking a lot more about the garden. Because you’re going to want to get out there and enjoy it. So why not plan out the big works and even small changes you want to make outside? And then, you’ll be able to really make the most of it when the weather is more favorable.
Replacing Fittings & Fixtures
The next thing that you might want to do, is to think about being able to make sure that you’ve replaced the fittings and fixtures in your home at the right times. Maybe you need to redo the kitchen because it’s looking a little shabby? Or do you need to replace the boiler before it breaks? Or do you need to put in a new stair rail? Just think about the big things around the home that could need working on this year.
Adding In Fun
And something that you may not be thinking about, is how you can have a lot more fun in the home! But you have to love being in your house. And so, maybe there’s a fun space, like a gym or art studio or movie theater, that you want to bring into the home? If so, make this your main focus for the year.
Preparing To Sell
The next thing that you might want to work on here, is getting your home ready to sell. Because maybe it’s time to move on? If you need more space, you want to move to a new area, or you’re just ready for the next step, you may want to make sure that your home is ready to be sold. And when you want to get the maximum for your home, you’ll want to ensure that you plan out the work, focus on adding value, and you even stage it perfectly before listing it on the market.
Enjoying The Home
And then, when you’ve managed to get through your to-do list, you’re then going to want to make sure that your final point is all about enjoying the home as much as you can. Because it’s hard work to just repair and replace and redecorate all year long. You definitely don’t want to finish that list and then have t start the next one for the next year! Ideally, you’ll get the list ticked off with enough time to spare for you to actually live in, and enjoy, the home.
