Use what you love
A great way to add some emotional connection is to think not in terms of pure stylistic décor, but to think of it as a way to show your heart and what you love. Photo displays are a very easy way to do that but incorporating your hobbies could be even more exciting. Adding a solitary bookshelf of your favorite books to display is one example. If you love music, you could choose a bunch of record sleeves to create your own art gallery, or you could frame and hang movie posters if you’re a cinema fan.
Show a softer side
Modern, minimalist décor is everywhere nowadays, and people keep following the tips wrong. Yes, using cleaner, smoother hard surfaces can help make your room look a lot tidier, brighter, and organized. But you shouldn’t skip the life that soft furnishings can give, either. Modern rugs not only add a colorful, creative spot to contrast a simple style. That softness, that tactile diversity is just as important. Plus, it’s much easier to manage an area rug than a carpet, so you don’t have to leave the minimalist life behind you entirely.
Tell a short story
If, like many, you avoid “themes” and “styles” too much because you don’t want your room to look too one note, you might avoid anything that fits said style because it could look kitsch. Rather than scattered, unrelated items, however, you could create a vignette that creates a mood or tells a story. These displays of mixed and matched items can make for an excellent focal point that shows off your tastes without overwhelming the room, entirely. It’s an excuse to get creative and see what works without going overboard with the budget, since it has to fit a single table or surface, too.
Add some life, literally
Never underestimate the power of a little green. Houseplants do add a lot of life to a room. They keep the air cleaner, they add a dash of color, the improve your mood and even help to fight off stress. Some people even like having something to look after. However, if you’re not too fond of being beholden to the schedule of a shrub, there are plenty of low-maintenance houseplants that are very easy to take care of, as well. Add a touch of nature to your home, see if you don’t love it.
With the tips above, you should be able to give your rooms a much-needed injection of life and passion. You don’t have to overdo it, just a few little changes here can make all the difference.
