Getting More From Your Kitchen Space

Most of us are extremely lucky to have a home in which we can raise our family. It might be hard work to maintain it, and it certainly wasn’t unearned, but being grateful about having this can be the first step to fully appreciating it. However, appreciating something and wanting to improve it can also happen at the same time. After all, over time we might find that something is no longer fit for purpose depending on our needs, or perhaps we just might like to make a change. Provided you can justify it, you should go for it! We say this because too often people are afraid to make the change they want to in their homes, for fear of ‘ruining it.’

Let us start with some examples, using the heart of the home to begin. The kitchen is a beautiful place to feed your family, cook delicious food (an act of love,) and generally bring the entire family together in one place. But how do you get more from your kitchen space? How can you improve it, particularly if things are starting to feel a little cramped? Let us explore and explain below:

Clear Surface Space

It’s not uncommon for us to store many of our to-hand items on the surface of our countertops for ease and convenience. However, surface space can often allow a cook to become more comfortable in their kitchen. We would recommend only keeping out those items you use regularly, as in everyday, and storing everything else either in the cabinets or potentially in the cupboard of another room. For example, it might be that you use your blender for a smoothie every morning. But as you only make bread once a month, that machine could be stored. When you declutter the kitchen, all of a sudden it takes on new utility and a fresh aesthetic.

Utilize Utility Space

The cabinets and drawers underneath a kitchen countertop can often be a great place to safe space in the kitchen. For example, instead of having a seperate dishwasher unit, incorporating it into the wood panelling with a pull handle could help you save six square feet of space. But not only that. Most of us know that fridges and pull-out dustbins can also save space in the kitchen, but have you thought of the corner? Pull out corner drawers and corner fridges can often save even more space, allowing you to make use of every inch of your table underneath. To us, that sounds like an incredibly wise and worthwhile thing to take care of.

Use The Walls

Using the walls for storage can be a great idea. Implementing shelving in tasteful areas might help you display your preserve jars or other cooking ingredients, the hallmarks of any good kitchen. A wall-mounted wine rack could help you see the bottles and use them in cooking, while an egg hanging basket might be a great place to use eggs in the same way.

With these ideas, we hope you’re able to get much more from your kitchen space.
