This is a speedy and easy fix for creating a sweet, pleasant smell throughout your home and it’s often a trick the estate agents or people trying to sell their home will use to create a warm, welcoming fragrance. Try heating some water in a pan, just on simmer, with some fragrant items in. Some to try include cinnamon, lemon and lime slices or lavender. You can even get premade fragrances to simmer away.
Complete Checks Around The House
You could have the cleanest house going but still have some lingering smells. It’s generally down to something straightforward like hidden damp or the need to clear blocked drains. It’s best to look into checking your pipes for blockages, walls for damp and windows for condensation throughout the year, they could be the hidden reason your home isn’t smelling as fresh as you’d like.
Bring The Outdoors In
Almost a full-proof way of getting your home to smell fresh is to include house plants as part of your decor. Not only do they make great features in your home, but they also clean the air and some smell amazing. The only thing you need to be wary of is if you have small fingers around or pets, some plants can be toxic, so make sure you research before you go ahead.
Use Cupboard Smellies
This might seem like something that not many people have heard of, but it’s an old trick that some may remember from their grandparents. They would use little bags of smellies and place them in their drawers and hang them in their wardrobes, which would help to keep them smelling beautiful. You can still get these too! Lovely little addition to any home, they even make a thoughtful gift.
Clean Your Bins
Again this may seem like something that simple and would go without the need to mention; however, and it’s surprising how little people clean the bottom of their bins out. Yes, we use bin bags which gives some protection, but this doesn’t prevent some leaks and spillages from escaping. Try cleaning the inside of your household bin once a week with bleach or disinfectant like Zoflora.
Clean Carpets
Carpets should be cleaned at least once a year, twice if they’re in high traffic areas, but this doesn’t occur in the majority of homes. If you don’t have time to clean your carpets thoroughly, you should at least try to use some of the fresheners available. Carpets are awful for holding onto dirt and smells so if you’re struggling to get a fresh smell throughout your home, then these could be the main culprit.
