The Right Space: Making Your Home Office Inspiring And Productive

One of the most frustrating aspects of working from home is being trapped within those four walls. While a lot of people love the idea of working from home in theory, in practice it is completely different. While we need to make sure that we have a home office as a space to do the work, making it inspiring and productive is something different entirely. What can we do to make our working environment as conducive to work as possible?

Having Everything You Need In One Place

An office at home, much like an office in the middle of a city, needs everything in one place. You need to look at it from a place of productivity, and this means that everything has to be in place, from ink cartridges to paper, and everything in between. Setting up a home office with all of these little implements is not too costly, as you can purchase cheap cartridges for your printer, and even acquire a desk for next to nothing. It may sound simple but when you have everything in one place, with a proper system, you are making yourself far more productive.

Working With Purpose

Because we end up trapped within these four walls, we can easily get distracted, and it turns out that we have a much longer working day ahead of us. We all know the main culprit: procrastination. This means that we have to ensure that we work with purpose, by pre-planning our day. It’s important to make a list of the tasks that you need to complete and follow through with them. You also need to figure out what time of day you are at your most productive. The whole joy of working from home is that you can do what you want, how you want, when you want. If you work better at 5 in the morning, then at the very least, if you complete your work by midday, you’ve got the rest of the day to yourself!

Keeping Yourself Inspired

When you work in a creative capacity, with only yourself for company, you may start to lose your spark. After working in the same place for so long, and being so used to your home environment, you may find that as the years go by, it becomes more difficult to keep that edge. It’s important to keep yourself inspired. This means working in different ways but also having a few things that can force you to think differently. Something like a vision board, or removing your old books and replacing them with new ones are a couple of ideas. But when you are working in the same place all of the time, you can very easily get demotivated. And while a home office is very productive if you set it up the right way there’s a lot to be said for escaping your home office. You can either choose to work differently at home, or you can change your environment.

To make your home office inspiring and productive, you have to remember that it’s a space that you have complete control over. What inspires you? What makes you productive? What can you do to achieve these things?
