Healthy Home Advice For Homeowners In 2021

If there’s something that most people want to focus on in 2021, it’s keeping themselves and their homes healthy. There’s all kinds of advice out there for keeping a healthy home, and here we’re going to give you some of the best advice out there. Take a look and see what you can do!

  1. Air Out Your Home From Time To Time

When was the last time you opened up your windows and really aired out your home? Airing out your home from time to time is important, as it moves stale air through your home and helps to freshen things up. Airing is also important because badly aired homes are moist homes and moist air does not warm up as well as dry air. This means that keeping your air dry by frequently airing your home reduces your heating costs. Here are some more benefits of airing your home to consider.

  1. Get Rid of Toxins Present In Your Home

There may be some toxins present in your home without you knowing it. Perhaps you have purchased candles that have been formulated with toxins. Soy wax candles are healthiest and don’t force you to breathe in dirty air when lit. Many commercial cleaning products contain unhealthy toxins, too, so it could be worth making your own or purchasing products formulated without them. Make sure you’re also prepared to call in the professionals when you need to, such as when you need residential air duct cleaning. You can keep your home clean to a certain standard yourself, but a professional clean will make all the difference.

  1. Make The Most of The Natural Light Available To You

Natural light brings us happiness and productivity – but it’s quite subtle. Whether you realise it or not, the lack of natural light in your home could be contributing to you feeling tired, unproductive, and even depressed. This can be especially true during winter, when we get far less sunlight and the days are darker. Making the most of natural light available to you is key, so:

  • Keep your windows clean inside and out – hire somebody to clean them regularly for you.
  • Invest in the right window dressings, whether you need blinds or curtains.
  • In winter, consider using light therapy if you need it.

  1. Purge The Items That Don’t Bring You Joy

Purging the items that don’t bring you joy will help you to reduce your clutter, and perhaps even make some extra money. If you can’t sell the items you no longer want, see if you can give them to a charity or somebody you know who will make use of them. You’ll feel so much better with them out of your way, so don’t hold on to them just because you think you might use them one day if you haven’t used them in a long time! Make sure everything in your home brings you happiness, or is at least something you use.

  1. Pick a Plant

You might think that you’re hopeless at looking after plants, but there are certain plants that are so much easier to care for. Peace lilies and snake plants require very little maintenance, and you can use a simple soil tester to see if it’s ready to be watered or not. They will purify the air for you and look beautiful to boot! Include as many as you like to keep your air clean and home looking great.

  1. Get Rid of Food Items You’re Not Going To Use

Get rid of the food items you’re not going to use by taking stock of your pantry, freezer, and refrigerator. Get rid of expired items that you have no intention of using and make a commitment to use things close to their use by date. Use up all of those half empty boxes and bags of food. You can get creative with your meal choices this way and perhaps even save a little money on your food shopping. Plus, you’ll have much more space in your freezer! If you know you won’t use items that are still in date, donate them to a food bank.

Keeping your home healthy this year is more important than ever, especially after everything we have been through and are still going through with the covid-19 pandemic.
