I probably should have just called this post “What I love about eating”, because we all know I love food, but I wanted to be a bit more specific and talk about
What I love about eating in London.
I visit London fairly regularly and food is always a big part of that. There’s just so much choice and so many amazing places to eat. Whenever I make plans to do something in London – shopping, the theatre, etc – I always make sure I take time to figure out the best places to eat near to where I’m going. I probably get as excited about that as I do about whatever it is I’m going to London for in the first place!
In a couple of weeks, I’m going to London with my very best friend, to visit three Christmas markets. In one day. That might seem excessive to some, but I love Christmas markets. Really, I’m just being efficient by fitting as many as I can into one day. You can be sure that there will be plenty of food being eaten that day. (It’s OK, I’ve planned to have that day off plan and I already know how I’ll get back on track).
You’re just spoiled for choice when it comes to eating in London, right? Christmas markets are no exception. The food is probably the thing I love most about Christmas markets. I love walking around all the stalls, enjoying all the amazing smells and finding different types of food to try (or finding my old favourites to endulge in!). The atmosphere is so festive and wonderful and eating food out of paper wrappers or cardboard plates is one of my favourite things, when I’m not on plan.
I’m talking Bratwurst from the Bavarian Village at Winter Wonderland, cheese boards and mulled wine by the river at Southbank and festive sweets at Leicester Square – I just can’t wait to enjoy everything all three Christmas markets have to offer. All the walking will work it off, right??
But it’s not just the markets in London that have great food
There are so many restaurants to choose from. I love that you can turn a corner in London and find any kind of food you could think of. Fast food restaurants just a stones throw from fine dining establishments is not something you will find in many places, but it’s completely normal in London!
I love that we can travel to London, hop on the tube and rock up to somewhere like Leicester Square or Covent Garden (to name just two of my favourite places to visit – Leicester Square has M&M World, so what’s not to love?) and find the perfect place to eat, whatever we’re in the mood for.
I’m sure there are other cities that offer a wonderful selection of amazing places to eat. Please do feel free to tell me all about them in the comments below. After all, the UK is full of great cities.
But nowhere beats London for me.
