There are a lot of blogs out there, and a lot of bloggers who want to turn their writing into a job. Unfortunately, not everybody can do this – but someone can, and why not you? Here are some tips on how you can become successful and make money from your blog.
Find Your Niche
First and foremost, you need to find your niche in the market. If you try to cover absolutely everything – beauty, health, interior design, books, shoes, family, fitness, the list goes on – then you won’t specialise in any specific area. That means that people who have certain specific interests won’t follow you as your writing will be too general for them. Instead, focus in on one small niche so that you can write some really great content based on it. If you love beauty, why not focus on vegan products, or skincare that’s great for sensitive skin? If you love fitness, you don’t need to write about every other topic under the sun as well. Find a niche in the market that your blog perfectly fits, and tailor your content for it.
Create A Community
All the best YouTubers and bloggers have managed to create a community, so it’s important that you work on doing this as well. The best way to do that is to talk to people – this might sound simple but it’s the best way! Open your anonymous commenting so that people feel free to leave you comments on your posts, talk to other bloggers and read and comment on their posts, and of course use social media to talk to people on Twitter and Instagram. Instagram stories is also a good way to talk to people – you can see how many people you’ve reached on there (which is great when it comes to organising #sponcon, or branded posts) and you can add polls and options for people to ask you questions that you can answer.
Consider Your Branding
At some point it may be a good idea to start adding sponsored content to your blog. Once you reach a certain amount of subscribers, brands may contact you so that you will work with them – for instance they might send you a watch so that you take a photo on Instagram of it, or they may send you a book so that you can write a review of it. If it all seems overwhelming, services like Bloggers Connected can put you in contact with suitable brands to work with.
Be Open And Transparent
Finally, the most important thing is to be open at all times. People will fall in love with your blog because of your personality, so it’s important that they don’t feel betrayed when you accept a sponsored post that clearly isn’t really you, just because you’re eager for the cash. Be open about partnerships you do, don’t praise things just because you’ve got them for free, and make sure to practise kindness in everything you do.
Even if blogging doesn’t become your day job, these tips should help you make a little extra cash online!
