Cool Feature Wall Ideas

Having a feature wall in the main room where you and your family spend time is something that everyone can enjoy. Accent walls come in and out of fashion, but actually, they are an easy way to add a lot of personality to your home – and there are more options than ever, too.

So here are a couple of fun ideas to add a cool feature wall to your living room.

Wallpaper – but arty

Instead of selecting a wallpaper with a colour, look for one that has a design on it. Since you are only doing one wall, you can see if you can spend a little bit more than you might ordinarily. There are some wallpapers that look hand painted – or you can get brave and paint something on the paper yourself.

Mirrors

Mirrors are a bold accent wall because you and your guests will need to be okay with looking at themselves for a while – or learning very quickly to ignore it. Mirror walls are a great idea in general because they bring so much light to a room, as well as having the added benefit of making a room look larger.

A mirror wall works best when it is facing the largest light source in the room so it can benefit from the most amount of light.

However, this is quite a cleaning commitment – so be ready for the work that goes into it.

Fireplace

It used to be that if you wanted a fireplace, you’d need to buy a house that already had one or be prepared for a lot of renovation work to have one fitted. Now though, you can have a media wall fireplace that has your TV and a gorgeous lick of flame below it. The benefits of a fireplace as a feature wall are that it looks warm and cosy for all of the winter and for the rest of the year, looks glamorous and inviting.

Gallery

The gallery wall has been a huge trend that seems to keep going. Where once the gallery wall was just a few photos in some nice frames, it has evolved considerably. A gallery wall now will often include small shelves, plates, and a range of different frames, plus a mix of artwork and photos.

A gallery wall is one of the easiest types of feature walls to create – and they are one of the most personal, too.

Wood

If your goal is to make sure that you have more naturalness in the room, and you don’t want the focus to be anything like a TV, then wood panelling is one of the easiest things to add to make a statement. You can stain it and keep it looking natural, or you can paint it to increase the interest further. The combination of texture and colour makes this an instant feature wall.

Perhaps it is not just a single wall that needs some attention; if you have recently looked around and asked yourself – why your living room doesn’t quite feel like home, here are some tips: Quick Tips For Transforming Your Painfully Dull Living Room
