Trying to relax at Christmas can be tough
As a mum, there’s always something that needs to be done. Taking an hour to relax means working extra hard for another 2 hours, which kind of defeats the point. But, that said, it is important to take the time to relax, because it’s your Christmas, too. Spending the whole time worrying about getting stuff done so that other people enjoy Christmas, while you end up rocking in the corning and pulling your hair out, isn’t really what the Christmas spirit is all about, is it?
So here are my go-to ways to relax at Christmas.
I love crafts, and the good thing about this one is that I’m actually getting stuff done while I relax. This year, I’ve made my own decomesh wreath, which was much easier than I thought it would be, and turned out really lovely.
I enjoyed making it so much that I ended up making a couple more for friends and family. But it doesn’t have to be wreaths. In the past, I’ve made my own Christmas cards, table centrepieces, decorations, etc. I haven’t found a craft I don’t like!
This is another way to relax at Christmas that also doubles as getting stuff done. So far this Christmas, we’ve baked Christmas pudding cookies and easy peasy gingerbread men. Most of the things we bake get eaten by the twins and Mr Becca, but they make great gifts, too! I love making chocolate fudge and peppermint creams at Christmas and they make lovely stocking fillers. But they’re easy to make, so it’s not stressful, and I’ve made them so many times, I could do it with my eyes closed, so it’s actually really relaxing.
I love to have a lot of lights on my Christmas tree. I think it looks beautiful, but it also really helps me relax at Christmas. From the 10th of December to whenever I force myself to take it all down in January, we don’t use the main lights in our living room, we just enjoy the glow of the Christmas lights.
Watching Christmas films is one of my favourite ways to relax at Christmas. I love putting a DVD on and watching one of the big well-known Christmas films, but do you know what I really like to do to relax? Watch Christmas24 on TV. The films aren’t always brilliant, but they are feel-good. And you don’t have to think about them too much. I love curling up on the sofa, with a big mug of hot chocolate, watching a cheesy Christmas film.
How do you relax at Christmas? Have I missed anything good?
